Natural horsemanship is a philosophy of working with horses based on their nature, using an understanding of how horses think and communicate, training the horse to accept humans and work confidently and responsively with them.
Instead of harsher methods create a partnership and trusting relationship which is much more fulfilling and provides a more consistent predictable result.
There are many practitioners out there like Buck Brannaman’s or Pat Parelli but the goal is to make the horse feel safe and secure and confident in the human as their partner so that the horse and rider can achieve a true union.
I first was introduced to this about 6 or 7 years ago and was instantly hooked. I have seen the benefits and and real results it produces.
The movie the Horse Whisperer was inspired by Buck Brannaman and he was an adviser for the movie – there is a great documentary called Buck about him that I highly recommend and of course the Parellis have an entire program out there.
